ANiels M. Israelsen is a researcher in optical coherence tomography (OCT) with special focus on skin cancerdiagnosis and high-resolution imaging based on supercontinuum ‘white light’ lasers.. His work spans both industrial and medical applications of OCT, from dermatology in the clinic to non-destructive scanning of coatings of wind-turbine blades. Niels has entrepreneurial experience and is co-founder of NORBLIS ApS, which produces OCT scanners and white light lasers for industrial applications.

DTU Electro focuses on electrical and photonics engineering, conducting research that drives innovation in areas like healthcare, sustainable energy systems, autonomous technologies, and advanced internet solutions. The department explores cutting-edge topics such as nanophotonics, lasers, quantum photonics, optical sensors, LEDs, photovoltaics, bio-photonics, power electronics, robotics, and acoustics. DTU Electro provides research-based advice to authorities and collaborates closely with industry and public organizations to transform research into practical technologies. With a vision to address global challenges like increasing internet capacity while reducing energy consumption, the department is paving the way for a future shaped by smarter, greener, and more efficient technologies in an era of rapid industrial transformation.
