Jes Broeng is a serial deep-tech entrepreneur, professor, and Director of The Centre for Technology Entrepreneurship (DTU Entrepreneurship) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He holds a PhD in photonics from DTU and has spent extended periods abroad, working as a researcher in e.g. the UK and the US. He has co-authored more than 250 scientific publications (h-index 50, +12.000 citations) and holds 22 patents. Jes has extensive experience in basic and applied research, business development, deep-tech sales (US, Europe, and Asia), IPR and licensing, and early-stage investments. He has co-founded a total of six companies, and he is an active board member and angel investor. At DTU, he established DTU Entrepreneurship in 2018 as a leading international centre for research and education in technology entrepreneurship and innovation. Among other accomplishments at DTU Entrepreneurship, he co-founded DTU’s Board Education program with a special focus on deep-tech startups and scaleups (in 2021). He also established and led the national initiative "Open Entrepreneurship" (from 2017 to 2024), a collaboration among all Danish universities to build a strong Danish entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Jes is a member of the Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy (since 2020). He has served on governmental committees in Denmark, including “The Entrepreneurial Commission” (2019) and the “Green Entrepreneurship Panel” (2021-22). He has also served in the Expert Group of the European Innovation Council (EIC) (2020-2022) and the external advisory board for Una Europa, an alliance of eight leading European universities (since 2020). He is a Fellow of SPIE (the international society for optics and photonics) and a member of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences. He was awarded the European Optics Prize in 1999 and DTU’s Innovation Award in 2016.

 

The Heart Centre at Rigshospitalet is a leading institution for cardiovascular and infectious disease research, integrating scientific advancements into clinical practice. Research spans five specialized departments, with a strong focus on cardiopulmonary surgery, vascular surgery, and clinical nursing through the IMPACT research unit. The Department of Infectious Diseases conducts studies on HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, neuroinfections, and tick-borne diseases, notably contributing to the Danish HIV Cohort Study. With dedicated research committees, strong collaborations, and international recognition, including the 'Global Excellence in Health' award, the Centre advances research in diagnostics, treatment, and patient care while promoting scientific knowledge and academic development.
