Emergency Medical Services in the Capital Region of Denmark provide rapid and specialized care for acute illness and injury. The service manages emergency call-taking via the 112 system, medical dispatch, ambulance operations, and physician-staffed critical care units, including helicopter emergency services. It also oversees high-dependency and urgent inter-hospital transfers, prehospital psychiatric care, and non-urgent patient transport. Additionally, the 24-hour medical helpline 1813 offers out-of-hours assistance. With a focus on major incident preparedness, the Emergency Medical Coordination Centre ensures efficient medical response and on-scene command during large-scale emergencies. Research at the EMS Research Center is a key priority, closely integrated with the control center and ambulance services to improve treatment and patient contact. Research projects focus on solving real-world clinical challenges, ensuring continuous advancements in prehospital emergency care.
