Tobias Todsen is a Clinical Professor and Senior Consultant in Otorhinolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Rigshospitalet and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), holding a joint appointment through the Technical University Hospital (TUH), Rigshospitalet, and DTU. He also serves as President of the Danish Society for Diagnostic Ultrasound (DSDU).

His research focuses on diagnostics, head and neck cancer, and ultrasound-guided minimally invasive procedures. He leads the Surgical Ultrasound Research Group in Copenhagen (SURGiC), a multidisciplinary research group that brings together clinical and engineering researchers at Rigshospitalet.

Tobias Todsen holds a patent for a novel 3D ultrasound technology and is co-founder of the startup company 3Sonic, which develops medical devices aimed at improving surgical cancer treatment. He also has extensive experience in artificial intelligence and health technology and serves as Course Director of Data in Medicine at the University of Copenhagen, introducing medical students to data-driven methods, AI, and health technology.

In addition, he is Course Director of the Copenhagen International Head & Neck Ultrasound Course, which has trained more than 200 physicians and engineers from over 30 countries. Through his work, Tobias Todsen bridges clinical expertise, technological innovation, and research, contributing to the development of next-generation diagnostic and surgical solutions that benefit both patients and healthcare systems worldwide.

 

The Centre for Head and Orthopaedics is the largest surgical centre at Rigshospitalet and is internationally recognized for its highly specialized patient care, strong research profile, and multidisciplinary approach. The centre provides treatment for both common and chronic conditions while serving as a national referral centre for highly specialized care across Denmark.

The centre is also home to Denmark’s National Trauma Centre and manages the country’s most complex and acute trauma cases. Research is fully integrated into clinical practice, with numerous PhD projects and interdisciplinary research collaborations contributing to the development of new knowledge and innovative treatment approaches.

Research activities span fields such as anaesthesiology, orthopaedic surgery, ophthalmology, rheumatology, and otorhinolaryngology, as well as topics including trauma care, scoliosis, knee surgery, cochlear implants, autoimmune diseases, and the use of virtual reality in surgical training.

With nearly 600 scientific publications each year, the centre makes significant contributions to the advancement of diagnostics, treatment strategies, and rehabilitation, supporting continuous improvements in patient care at both the national and international levels.
