Silvia Tolu is an Associate Professor at DTU (Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering), specializing in neurorobotics and bio-inspired control. She leads the NeuroRobotics Technology Lab, where her research combines neuroscience, machine learning, and robotics to develop adaptive healthcare technologies.

Her work focuses on patient-specific approaches to neurodegenerative diseases and neurorehabilitation. She contributes to projects on computational modelling of Parkinson’s disease and its early diagnosis using multimodal sensing and machine learning. By integrating kinematic and electromyography data, her research identifies objective biomarkers to support earlier and more accurate clinical decisions. This includes the development of musculoskeletal digital twins for personalized assessment and treatment.

In parallel, she develops soft wearable robotics for stroke rehabilitation and assistive tools for Parkinson’s disease, as well as brain–computer interface (BCI) systems integrated with robotic exoskeletons for motor recovery.

Silvia collaborates with clinical partners, e.g., Rigshospitalet, to translate AI and robotics into scalable solutions for diagnosis, rehabilitation, and assistive care.
