About TUH
Technical University Hospital of Greater Copenhagen was established on 1 April 2024 as a partnership between the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the Capital Region of Denmark.
The partners aim to create a world‑class research and innovation environment in which technology is harnessed to improve the quality of patient care and to help transform the healthcare system through education, innovation, research and treatment.
Technical University Hospital of Greater Copenhagen (TUH) encompasses the nine hospitals of the Capital Region. By collaborating on a shared platform, TUH provides a unified framework and access to data for students, hospital staff, researchers, educators, industry and external partners who are developing new solutions for patient diagnosis and treatment as well as for hospital operations.
The healthcare sector faces a future with more patients and fewer staff to treat them. Efforts are under way both nationally and internationally to meet these challenges through more effective use of technology. To seize these opportunities and ensure the necessary development of the healthcare system, it is essential to embed staff with technological expertise directly within hospital departments to a far greater extent than at present.
The partnership covers education, innovation, research and treatment, and will also strengthen collaboration with the medical device and pharmaceutical industries to ensure that new developments and innovations benefit patients both nationally and internationally.
Higher pace in research and innovation
The shared TUH framework provides an overview of research projects and activities, which are increasingly coordinated so as to accelerate the development of new technological solutions.
Ongoing research projects and collaborations can be expanded into larger, mission‑driven endeavours, thereby enhancing technological knowledge among healthcare professionals and training more engineers specialising in the development of technological solutions for healthcare.
The TUH partnership builds on several years of collaboration between DTU and Rigshospitalet, including a bachelor’s programme in Biomedical Engineering as well as numerous research projects ranging from organ transplantation to AI‑driven solutions and intelligent alarm systems.
